ABOUT ME

I am a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Stirling. Before this I was a researcher at the department of General and Experimental Psychology, LMU Munich, the department of Neurology at LMU and the department of Neuroradiology at TUM, Munich, Germany. You can find a full list of my publications on Google Scholar.

ABOUT MY RESEARCH

My primary research interests are neural oscillations, brain stimulation and consciousness. Neural oscillations are fundamental to how the brain functions, but to fully understand them we need to be able to:

  1. Manipulate them to see if they actually have a causal function (and also to hopefully improve brain function) and

  2. Find ways of observing brain activity whilst moving around in the real word beyond the lab.

Based on this, my research has two specific objectives:

  1. Develop methods for combining rhythmic brain stimulation with EEG so we can observe neural activity whilst manipulating it (in particular I focus on tACS).

  2. Develop methods for recording EEG during natural movement and from real visual scenes.

My research uses Steady State Visually Evoked Potentials (SSVEPs) as a key tool for meeting these objectives.
